The Islamic Society of Central Pennsylvania

Raising Awareness

Spread the love

Dear brothers and sisters of the Islamic Society of Central Pennsylvania (ISCP) community,

السلام عليكم ورحمة الله وبركاته

We are pleased to announce an important event hosted by ISCP in collaboration with the State College Area School District (SCASD), Patton Township Police Department, and Furgeson Township Police Department. Our aim is to raise awareness about the growing issue of drug use among middle and high school students.

The spreading of drugs and substance abuse among students is a serious concern that affects the health and well-being of our children. Therefore, we believe that education and prevention are crucial for tackling this problem. Our goal is to provide parents with the knowledge and resources they need to make informed decisions about their children’s health.

During the event, we will have the privilege of hearing from Officer Brian Shaffer of Patton Township, who is an expert on drugs. He will lead an interactive discussion about negative risk factors, substance-using peers, signs and symptoms of substance abuse, and different types of drugs. Additionally, we will have the honour of welcoming Tonya Black, the Director of Diversity, Inclusivity and Belonging at the high school. She will give parents and kids resources and information to help them find support and learn how to spot the signs of drug abuse, and peer pressure as well as practical ways to prevent and deal with drug abuse.

We invite everyone in the community to join us for this vital event. By attending and helping us spread the word, we can work together to make a difference in the lives of our young people. Together, we can equip them with the tools they need to make healthy choices and achieve their full potential. Thank you for your support.
